Montreal West Town Council Candidate

A Vision for Community1

Martha Slocombe Town Council

I am thrilled to be running for Seat Number 2 as part of Montreal West’s Town Council. Since moving here in 2017, I’ve fallen in love with this community—its warmth, its close-knit feeling, and the way neighbours truly look out for one another. It’s one of the rare places where people still know and trust their neighbours, and that sense of connection is something I want to nurture and help grow.

I’m a translator by trade, but for many years, much of my energy has gone into raising my children and being present for them day to day. Until recently, I was fortunate to work part-time from home, giving me the chance to be closely involved in their lives and, by extension, in our community. Over the years, I’ve served meals with Meals on Wheels, volunteered consistently at my children’s school, contributed to a nonprofit ebook, and recently joined the group working to continue the Montreal West Horticultural Society. Now that my kids are growing more independent, I’ve been looking for new ways to give back and so when the idea of running came up in conversation with fellow MoWesters, it felt like the natural next step.

I bring approachability, dedication, and a deep love for this community. I’ve spent countless hours on the sidelines of practices, games and lessons, talking with other parents and residents, listening to their concerns and hopes. Those conversations have shaped my belief that what people are looking for most is connection—to each other and to the decisions that shape our town.

I want Montreal West to remain a place where parents feel safe letting their kids roam freely and where seniors feel safe, supported, and valued. I want to keep this town attractive to young families while ensuring it remains affordable and welcoming to those who have called it home for decades.

I believe in the power of new energy and fresh ideas—and in the importance of bringing more voices into the life of our town. I have ideas that I look forward to sharing in the months ahead, but even more importantly, I bring energy, determination, and a deep commitment to turning good ideas into action.

I’m excited to play a part in building a future for Montreal West that honours our past and welcomes what’s next—together.
